The Malcolm X women’s basketball team defeated Sauk Valley Community College 70-60 in the Region IV Division 1 Tournament finals tonight in Joliet. With the win, the Hawks advance to the North District Championship., where they will face North Dakota State College of Science on Saturday (March 7) in Wahpeton, N.D. The winner of that game will move on to the NJCAA Championship in Lubbock, Texas (March 17-21).
The Region IV title is head coach Kim McQuarter’s seventh in approximately 21 years (I am trying to get confirmation on that). Malcolm X also won the Region IV Tournament in 2015, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2004 and 2003.
Malcolm X, which has a 16-9 record, received several tournament awards:
Jessica Congress – Tournament MVP
Jada McCurdy – All-Tournament Team
Tyla Allen – All-Tournament Team
Kim McQuarter – Region IV Coach of the Year
The Lady Hawks will face North Dakota State College of Science on Saturday. The winner will move on to the NJCAA Championship in Lubbock, Texas.
