With a new year just around the corner, it’s time to leave 2020 behind and make a new start. City Colleges provides a quality, affordable education that helps prepare you for a successful future.
“At City Colleges our goal is to ensure that students have the support they need to achieve their academic and career goals,” Chancellor Juan Salgado said.
Students at City Colleges may be eligible for a variety of support. This support may include, but is not limited to, grants, scholarships, virtual services and laptops on loan among other things.
Quality, In Demand Programs
Each City College offers students many paths to success. They can choose from basic and advanced certificates, associate degrees or continuing education classes.
Each City College provides general education classes in addition to specializing in an in-demand field. Specialties include: healthcare, engineering & advanced manufacturing, information technology, business, culinary and hospitality, education, human and natural sciences, and transportation, distribution, and logistics.
Non-credit adult education classes (free English as a Second Language classes and free high school equivalency (GED or HiSET) preparation classes) are available at six colleges.
Paying for College
Students who register for credit courses must provide a verified way to pay for their tuition within three days of when they register. Options for tuition payment include: using financial aid, arranging a no-interest payment plan, paying in full, or applying for scholarships. Those interested in applying for City Colleges scholarships can visit www.ccc.edu/scholarships to apply. Applications for spring are due by February 11, 2021.
Debt Forgiveness
Fresh Start gives thousands of Chicagoans the chance to return to college and earn a credential. Earlier this year, Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot and Chancellor Salgado announced the launch of a college debt forgiveness program titled Fresh Start. This innovative program offers more than 21,000 former City Colleges students a way to return to school and finish a program. Those who left the community college system within the last ten years while in good academic standing can return to college, clear their debt, and earn a college certificate or degree. Approach to Spring Classes & Services
To protect the health and safety of students, faculty and staff, most City Colleges credit classes will continue remotely or online this spring. All adult education (high school equivalency – GED/ HiSET and English as a Second Language (ESL)) classes will be held via distance learning.
A limited number of credit classes will take place either face-to-face or as blended face-to-face and remote classes. These classes are for when hands on experiences are essential to meeting course requirements or when student learning and retention can benefit. In all cases, face-to-face instruction is undertaken only as public health conditions allow and with social distancing in place.
Student services are also delivered remotely. All seven colleges will be open as study centers for students with proper protections in place.

There are three sessions for the Spring term: a regular 16-weeks session and 12- and 8-weeks sessions. Registration for the regular 16-week is until January 15 (classes begin January 19). For the 12-week session registration is until February 12 (classes begin February 16). Registration for the final 8-week session is until March 11 (classes begin March 15).
