Early Learning Workforce Scholarship Application is Open!

Chicago Early Learning Workforce Scholarship Application Opens

It’s been said the first five years have so much to do with how the next 80 years will turn out for our children.

The Mayor’s Office, City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) — Harry S. Truman College, Chicago Public Schools (CPS), and the Department of Family & Support Services (DFSS) collaborated to launch the Chicago Early Learning Workforce Scholarship initiative or CELWS. This scholarship will offer support to Chicagoans and the current Chicago Early Learning workforce as they pursue coursework to earn a credential, degree, endorsement, or licensure to work with young children (birth through Pre-k) and families in Chicago Early Learning program
“With the help of this scholarship, individuals can earn a degree and launch their career in a vital field of study. This is important because we know early childhood is critical. What children learn in their first few years of life and how they learn it has long-lasting effects on their success and health as children, teens, and adults, “ said Sandy De León, Executive Director, Chicago Early Learning Workforce Scholarship.
Who is eligible for this scholarship? Current Chicago Early Learning staff who would like to  advance their career as early childhood professionals and Chicago residents interested in entering the early childhood workforce.
Who else can apply? Chicagoans who are:
  • Parents of children currently enrolled in one of Chicago’s early childhood programs
  • DACA recipients
  • Recent High School graduates (including upcoming 2021 graduating class) interested in pursuing a career in early childhood
The scholarship will serve as a “last dollar” scholarship, meaning it will cover everything that students’ federal grants and other scholarships do not cover. Applicants will be required to complete the free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application process or certify they are ineligible for financial aid.  Students can apply during the open period, applications are completed on the Chicago Early Learning website. Once complete, the applicant will receive follow-up as opportunities become available. To learn more, visit: https://success1.ccc.edu/category/scholarships/celws/
