The work of 23 nonprofit groups in Colorado and Illinois, including City Colleges of Chicago, has been recognized by Telligen Community Initiative (TCI) through grants, which are awarded to organizations that advance TCI’s funding priorities of health innovation (HI), health care workforce development (HCWD), and social determinants of health/health equity (SDH/HE).

“The health needs in our communities continue to increase, which makes the work of nonprofit agencies even more important,” said Matt McGarvey, executive director of Telligen Community Initiative. “Despite ongoing challenges posed by the pandemic, the impact of the programs and services offered by these 23 organizations is inspiring and deserving of support.”

By the June 15 deadline, there were 123 proposals received from organizations in Colorado and 113 from Illinois. From that pool, 11 grants were awarded in Colorado and 12 in Illinois.

“We continue to see how funding community-based organizations inspires further collaboration and initiatives designed to address the social determinants of health,” McGarvey said. “TCI is proud to financially support that creative process.”

City Colleges of Chicago is excited to be a recipient of this grant. The funding from TCI will be used to support students’ mental health and well-being by expanding the service capacity of our college Wellness Centers to provide referrals to telepsychiatry care.

Before and during the pandemic, many of our students needed mental health resources and support. When they visited our Wellness Centers to receive such services, we often connected them with community agencies to receive more comprehensive support. With this grant, we will be able to ensure that finances are not a barrier to our students when receiving the mental health services they need.

Students interested in participating in this program should contact their college’s Wellness Center.
