Brittany Jackson Kairis, executive director of strategic initiatives in Adult Education at City Colleges of Chicago, was recently selected to join the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) Adult Education and Literacy Advisory Council. Jackson Kairis will serve a two-year term as chairperson of a committee that will create a policy framework for developmental adult education programs. The committee is tasked with improving collaboration between academic English as a Second Language programs, adult education programs leading to an Illinois High School Diploma, and literacy programs across the state.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to work together with adult education advocates across the state to create meaningful policy changes,” Jackson Kairis said.

The ICCB Adult Education and Literacy Advisory Council was created in 2000 to identify adult education policies and priorities, and make recommendations on how to improve them. The Council provides guidance on curriculum and instruction, student support and transition services, programmatic and operational policies, and professional development and training.
