Congratulations to Olive-Harvey College sophomore Fantasia Baines for being named a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II National Player of the Week for December 7-13, 2022. Baines was honored because of her impressive performance as a forward on Olive-Harvey’s women’s basketball team.

Recently, Baines scored 29 points and snagged 12 rebounds in a 70-60 win over the Governors State University junior varsity team. She went on to score 30 points and secure 14 rebounds in a 59-58 win over McHenry College. Her combined points in those two games accounted for over 45% of the team’s total scoring, and her performance this fall has been integral to the Lady Panthers’ overall record of 8-2.

In addition to earning NJCAA honors, this week, Baines was also named an Olive-Harvey College Student Athlete of the Week. It’s the second time she’s received the honor from City Colleges’ Athletic Department; last spring, she earned the recognition as a freshman on the team.

Among all Division II women’s basketball players on teams who were unbeaten last week, Baines’ average of 29.5 points per game was one of the highest in the country. Her average of 13 rebounds per game is also an impressive accomplishment.

Off the court, Baines, a graduate of Thornwood High School in suburban South Holland, is currently pursuing her Associate in General Studies with a focus in healthcare.
