City Colleges of Chicago is dedicated to meeting the needs of our military-affiliated students, and recent recognition from a national military-focused program showcases our commitment to supporting service members, veterans, and their families.

Six City Colleges were recognized with 2023-2024 Military Friendly® Schools Awards for their leading practices, effective programs, and positive outcomes for military-affiliated students. Institutions earn the Military Friendly® Schools Awards designation based on an evaluation of public data sources and their responses to a survey administered by Viqtory Media.

In the Large Community College category, Wilbur Wright College received the gold-level recognition and placed in the “Top Ten” schools in its category. Olive-Harvey College also earned a gold-level award.

Four City Colleges earned recognition in the Small Community College category. Kennedy-King College was named a gold-level college and was ranked in the “Top Ten” schools, and Harold Washington College and Harry S Truman College also took home gold-level awards. Malcolm X College was honored with the silver-level recognition.

The Military Friendly® program was created in 2003 to encourage American organizations to invest in programs that improve the lives of veterans. Awards are given to recognize each organization’s commitment, effort, and success in creating sustainable and meaningful benefit for the military community, which includes active duty, reserve, guard, veterans, and military spouses.

City Colleges has a long-standing reputation of serving those who serve. All seven City Colleges have a dedicated Veteran Services Center designed to meet the unique needs of veteran and military-affiliated students, and we were recently awarded a grant of $525,000 from the U.S. Department of Education to expand our support for veteran students.
