Two of the City Colleges of Chicago received national recognition for being community colleges that foster a positive workplace culture and climate.

Malcolm X College and Olive-Harvey College were recognized as 2023 “Most Promising Places to Work in Community Colleges” (MPPWCC) award winners by the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) and the newsmagazine Diverse: Issues In Higher Education.

The colleges were chosen for their best-in-class student and staff recruitment and retention practices, inclusive learning and working environments, and meaningful community service and engagement opportunities.

As part of a national list of 20 promising places to work in community colleges, Malcolm X College and Olive-Harvey College will be mentioned in the May 25 edition of the newsmagazine and recognized on May 30 at the Closing General Session of NISOD’s annual International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence in Austin, Texas.

Focusing on workplace diversity, staffing practices, and work environment, the MPPWCC team uses a web-based survey approach to examine categories such as family friendliness, salary/benefits, and professional development opportunities to determine which colleges make the list.
